THE INDIAN MOPED
was produced from 1977-81, as the last attempt to bring the Indian Motocycle Company
(yes, 'moto-cycle, not motor-cycle!) from the brink of disaster.
While the venture wasn't successful, the Indian moped occupied a spot in the moped
world no
other could. It was larger, heavier, more comfortable and much more impressive-looking,
than its contemporary competitiors. Very detailed design (all parts were unique,
all marked 'Indian'), large capacity gas tank, lots of chrome accents, metallic
paint. It was powered by a 4-stroke engine. with a typical, throaty 4-stroke sound,
as opposed to the more lawnmower-like 2-stroke putt-putt of other mopeds. Not
a speed demon by any measure (it was quite heavy) but quite a pleasure to ride.
